What Is Your Why (Why Are You In Business)?
Florida Music Therapy believes strongly in a critical humanistic approach that values and supports autistic individuals. We aim to enhance self-concept, self-esteem, and self-love while we use music to make life more accessible and comfortable.
How did you get started in your field or work?
Courtney Arndt has been practicing music therapy for 15 years, but started an accessible private practice after seeing family after family struggling to afford this vital service. Currently, over 90% of Florida Music Therapy families don’t pay a penny out of pocket.
What’s one thing we should know that makes your company unique?
There is a deep and powerful connection between music and autism. Music can aid in emotional and sensory regulation, emotional identification and expression, speech and language, fine and gross motor, and all areas of development because music processed in both hemispheres in the brain. What a powerful and versatile tool for therapy!
What are your biggest goals in the next 6 to 12 Months for your business?
Florida Music Therapy plans to double our therapists, participants, and studio space in the next year!
Who do you know that is impacted by Autism and how has that impacted you?
Courtney Arndt: The people I love most are autistic. Neuro-variants are in my family, workplace, and community. I absolutely love to see the autistic community growing in pride of their neuro-type and I will alway be on the sidelines working and cheering for their equitable access in this world.
