On 5 Minute Salute, our host Chris Budihas talks to veterans making a difference in their communities. Today, Chris has the honor to speak with Annie Brock of Leader Transition Institute.

The Leader Transition Institute prepares and walks beside people who are making pivots in their lives, with a special focus on service members, veterans, and military spouses. Concurrently, we help small and large organizations maximize their abilities to communicate and lead, as well as improve their hiring process. We are a veteran-led 501(c)(3) organization.

How do you define success?

Success, which is all about me, is growing and feeling fulfilled as I meet my goals. Significance, which is more important to me, is about making a meaningful impact on other people. It’s about what stays behind when I’m no longer there.

How did you get started in your field or work?

I am a veteran and military spouse. While I worked to improve myself, I recognized a gap in what service members were provided as they left the military and what they needed. I decided to fill the gap.

What’s one thing we should know that makes your company unique?

We are the only organization filling the gaps left by the Department of Defense mandated Transition Assistance Program for every group of military affiliated people. We welcome service members of all ranks and services, veterans of every era with any kind of discharge, military spouses, and Gold Star family members.

What was the biggest obstacle you had to overcome in your business?

The biggest obstacle I’ve had to overcome so far was believing in myself to get the organization going. I had the idea, wrote it all out on paper, and sat on it for four years before I backed myself in a corner and had to launch it.
