Can you share a moment or experience that significantly deepened or shaped your faith journey?

As a child, I was an altar boy for my school church, an experience that immersed me in the Bible. It wasn’t until I experienced my own hardships later in life that I truly understood those teachings. My father endured a tragic accident, which resulted in paralysis from the neck down. During this time, I struggled with my faith, not understanding why. After my father passed away, I was blessed to have a son who was named in memory of my father. A few months after my son was born, the family I’d dreamt of was once again shattered. That experience changed me at my core and deepened my faith. Suffering is part of the journey, and it can either break you or make you stronger and more resilient. I am who I am today because of what I’ve endured, and I’m stronger for it because of my faith that this is all part of God’s plan.

In what ways do you actively live out your faith in your daily life — at work, home, or in your community?

My faith is the only reason I keep going. I’ve given my life to becoming the best father I can in honor of the sacrifices and suffering my family endured. I am actively involved in my community as a Rotarian, with the understanding that we all have a story, a tragedy, and the only way to overcome those hardships is by giving back and helping others through service. When you surround yourself with people whose lives are rooted in faith, you find purpose.

What encouragement or scripture has been especially meaningful to you in this season, and why?

“The Call of Jeremiah.” Specifically, Jeremiah 29:11 has had significant meaning to me throughout my life because, for me, I feel my life has already been pre-determined, and by keeping my faith in those words, one day I will soon uncover what has already been written.

What advice would you give to someone who’s struggling to live out their faith or looking to grow spiritually?

My advice for someone struggling to live their life by faith would be to trust that there is a greater purpose and wake up each day determined to face life’s struggles with relentless resilience. It is through that process that we become and eventually discover how faith can reshape the course of our lives.

James Fenimore
Hi and welcome to Living My Faith, where we spotlight people in the community that are really living their faith. I’m James Fenimore. Today we’ve got a very special guest for you. Joining me is Jeremiah Aut. Jeremiah, how are you?

Jeremiah Aut

Good. Great to see you.

James Fenimore

Yeah. So, listen, I like to start the show with one easy, simple question. Jeremiah, how are you living your faith?

Jeremiah Aut
I’m living my faith through my actions. I grew up in a religious household, and was instilled with a lot of Catholic values. And I believe living your faith is just simply through your actions every day. It’s beautiful. Very simple, very simple. It’s good. It’s a good roadmap for us.

James Fenimore

I love that. And, what do show me a little bit about what you do for work?

Jeremiah Aut

So I’m in the advertising and marketing space. It’s a lot of, changes in the tech space, AI and all that, but it’s a lot of fun. A father to my five year old son. That’s the real work. Yeah, that’s a lot of my work.

James Fenimore

Really? All right. Wonderful. So we have a lot of viewers that might be new to faith. You know, maybe they’re coming in for the first time. Maybe they’ve been away from it for decades. Maybe the church heard or whatever circumstances pull them away from Christ. But they’re back now. How would you tell them to live out their faith daily?

Jeremiah Aut

If they were pulled away from their faith, I would say that no matter what you’re going through, in your life. Falling back on those fundamental values that you learned growing up through your faith, no matter what religion or background that is, is the only way to ensure that you can keep going and find purpose and whatever crosses your bearing at that moment or season that you’re in. It’s a struggle. Like, it’s not easy to do.

It’s something you work on every single day. It’s a mindset, you know, shift, is something that you really need to do internally. Make, make that change internally, and move forward in embracing your faith again. Yeah. I absolutely think of trying to do it maybe for some people, you know, when they bring faith back in or it’s their first time, they’re not used to it.

Right. It’s right. It’s like a new habit almost. I like to, to say, read the Bible, or pray or those tips that you, you’ve used in the past to benefit your faith. So, like, I don’t read the Bible, every day. I don’t go to church every Sunday. I try to, those are things that I grew up as, very important to in my my religious background.

I feel personally the most important thing is to implement those those teachings that that you were brought up in. No matter. No matter what, that that faith, or spiritual background that you may have. And doing that, whatever. Season or or just whatever struggle you’re going through is going to be easier to you. I said find a purpose out of it.

That’s been my experience, and it’s it’s been one that I’ve lost my way. One point, I actually, for a very long time, not understanding why, the things that I was taught growing up didn’t really turn out the way that I, but, I, you know, I learned, and then I had another pivotal point in my life where I just decided that there’s got to be a plan from what has happened in my life.

Again, just my experience on, or my, my journey. And in that sense. But in discovering that and discovering your way back to your faith or just your belief system is the. Trying to pull it. It’s the it’s the way to get through those struggles in your life that you can’t find a definitive answer for sure.

Those questions I had for a decade, or so, I couldn’t find the answer. Like I said, another the the other experience in my life, I had to fall back on that. That was the only thing that got me through, and it changed me entirely.

James Fenimore
Yeah. That’s, that’s that’s really sound advice, because I know that there are a lot of people out there that have been struggling with the same issue over and over, and they’ve tried the self-help books, which is a disaster.

Jeremiah Aut
Yes.

James Fenimore
My self is not where we want to get our help from. But they’ve tried different methodologies. But when it comes to your faith and following the belief system there, that’s where you’ll find the true purpose and the true healing. Is that what you think?

Jeremiah Aut
Exactly. Yes, sir.

James Fenimore
Jeremiah, I can’t thank you enough for joining me today. That was going to help a lot of people. I really appreciate you coming in, and I hope I get to see you again soon.

Jeremiah Aut
Of course. Thank you for having me on.

James Fenimore
Absolutely. Thank you. Jeremiah. I’m James Fenimore, this has been Living My Faith, and we can’t wait to see you next time.
