How long have you been in your industry?22
Why did you choose your industry?I was "thrown in" after the sudden death of my husband, Louis Montgomery, USAF Maj, Vet) He started the company in 2002 after researching Benfotiamine for relief from his neuropathy/sciatica.
Who are your typical clients? Most clients are 45-90, Type 2 diabetics, with neuropathy. Newer clients are recovering from cancer/chemo and have developed neuropathy from that. Going forward, studies are in progress for slowing the progress of Alzheimer's disease which is considered Type 3 Diabetes, by researchers.
What do you like best about being in this industry? We treat every client like family and we're working towards helping families recognize WHY diabetes is so prevelent in our cultures. I'd like to put myself out of business by slowing/preventing diabetes...it's going to take the world/village to do that.
What are common problems you see? We're up against the "Sugar Monster" and the upsizing of portions. It's very difficult to get people to want to prevent diabetes and the accompaning illnesses - most wait to lose weight/change diets, etc until they are diagnosed with diabetes and then it's a scramble to "CURE."
What advice/tips do you have for clients? If we would start earlier in life to eat in moderation (especially sweets) and then work with our doctors once they recognize blood sugar levels are going up. Be willing to tell family members that you have pre-diabetes and seek first for non-prescription ways to slow it down or reverse the trend. Learn about Benfotiamine, a lipid soluble form of thiamine (Vit B-1) and show your doctor how it can help!
When is your busy season? All year long
What keeps you up at night? My exit strategy is always in the back of my mind...thought the company would be a legacy for my late husband, but the kids don't want it!
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business? We rely on customer word of mouth referrals, some doctors (practitioner pricing is very reasonable), selling online through our own website and several other large vitamin supplement companies, blogs and some advertising.
How involved are you in the community?I am currently the primary care/support for my 95 year old Dad...he has worked with me for the last 15 years...and with my mom passing suddently this past December, he's my "community project!" I also am involved in church activities.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?K-9s for Warriors (most of my family, including myself, are veterans and dog lovers!
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Don't do it alone - work with a good team.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?I play golf with my husband (newly married going on 10 years) and spending time with 4 kids and 4 grandkids!
