How long have you been in your industry?23 years
Why did you choose your industry? We started our business when AOL was cool....AOL drew my attention to the internet and I felt that the internet was not a fad, so we started building website for businesses in 1999. We launched our first website in April 2000. Much has changed with the internet since we started.
Who are your typical clients?Typical clients are small and emerging businesses that realize that they need to use the internet to help them grow......we become part of their growth strategy. We serve all industries that use the internet.
What do you like best about being in this industry? It is essential for most business. Every legitimate business needs a good digital footprint and that's where we live. When we first started , that was not the case....we had to convince a business owner to consider a website. Now, the business owner knows they need it.
What are common problems you see?The most common problem we see is when a business owner does not have a clear picture of their digital foot print. They might have hired a “web guy” to build a website but they don't really know where it is hosted, or where to renew the domain name, etc. If they have a problem and the “web guy” is not responsive , they have a bigger problem. We do several “rescues” every year, it is a common scenario.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Pay attention to security! Use complex passwords, maintain the health of your website or you will invite trouble. Make sure you have a file with critical details on where your website is hosted, who controls your domain name and email accounts. We can track all of that down for a business owner.
When is your busy season? Our busy times are not predictable, we try to manage our business so we don't fluctuate too much. If we find business slowing for a few weeks, we seize the moment and tackle the internal projects that have been waiting to get done.
What keeps you up at night?I sleep like a log, but I always have keen eye towards my project pipeline. If I don't have multiple project proposals going I'm not doing it right, a robust pipeline is the key to good sleep.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?I do a lot of in person networking and have the benefit of 23 years of good connections in my referral base and repeat clients.
How involved are you in the community? We like to do charity motorcycle rides and poker runs that help support various causes.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?K-9 for warriors, there is not better organization to support our service men and women that need help with PTSD..and dogs are awesome!
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business? No matter what aspect of the industry you decide to pursue, make sure you have a strong focus on security. The internet is the wild west and it is getting wilder and more dangerous every day. Also, get a lawyer and CPA right away, don't try to navigate that w/out a professional.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Riding our Harley all over the southeast...we travel to the North Georgia Mountains twice a year specifically to do that. We also love beach time.
